Dr. Jan Looman, Ph.D., C. Psych.

Clinical & Forensic Psychologist

Dr. Jan Looman is a clinical and forensic psychologist with extensive experience in forensic psychological assessment, sexual behaviour, risk assessment, treatment, correctional mental health, expert evidence, research and professional training.

He earned his Ph.D. in Clinical/Forensic Psychology from Queen’s University and is registered for autonomous practice in Ontario. He is also licensed to practice psychology in Washington State.

Dr. Looman’s career includes senior clinical and management positions within Correctional Service Canada and forensic mental-health settings. He served for many years as Program Director of a high-intensity sexual offender treatment program and subsequently held senior psychology and clinical-management positions within the Regional Treatment Centre and federal correctional mental-health services.

His forensic practice includes sexual behaviour and risk assessments, probation and parole assessments, court-related assessments and Sexually Violent Predator evaluations, along with experience in child custody and access assessments and fitness and NCR assessments.

Dr. Looman has extensive Canadian expert-witness experience and significant U.S. forensic experience, including Sexually Violent Predator civil-commitment work. He has held academic appointments with Queen’s University and Carleton University.

He is an ATSA Fellow and a certified trainer in Static‑99R, STABLE‑2007 and ACUTE‑2007.

Dr. Looman has authored and co-authored substantial peer-reviewed research and professional literature addressing sexual behaviour, risk, psychopathy, recidivism, mental illness and treatment. He is co-author of Treatment of High Risk Sexual Offenders: An Integrated Approach.
